Parkinson’s disease nursing support service has closed
A national charity that supports people with Parkinson’s disease has described the loss of Macclesfield District General Hospital Parki-nson’s nurse as “really worrying”.
There are no staff to maintain the service after she quit her job with East Cheshire NHS Trust last month.
When it emerged in January there would be a gap in service provision, the trust approached Eastern Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, which commissions health services locally, to suggest it sought a Parkinson’s nursing service from a “specialist neuroscience provider” on the basis that it would have both the professional expertise and scale to ensure the service met the needs of the local population and greater ability to recruit and retain staff.
