Radar storage chest has new act at Globe theatre
A chest once used to store World War Two radar equipment has been given a new lease of life — as a prop in a production of Othello at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in London.
Owner Ron Eardley of Congleton had used the trunk for storing gardening tools until he decided to sell it on Ebay for £45, where it was snapped up by the world-renowned theatre.
The trunk originally came to Britain from America during the European Recovery Program (ERP), or Marshall Plan, a US initiative to help rebuild Western European economics after the end of the war.
