Redesmere Water Lily Queen 2018
Redesmere’s 82nd water lily queen was crowned on Saturday.
The ceremony, dating back to 1936, features the crowning of the water lily queen, so-called because she is rowed across the lake, which was at one time covered with water lilies.
Retiring queen Aimee Venables led the procession to the lakeside accompanied by Scots pipers.
New queen Isobel Lawson then boarded a swan-shaped boat and sailed to her coronation ceremony, which was performed by water lily king Charlie Mills.
Fete Committee secretary Peter Kent said: “I’m sure everybody enjoyed themselves. We had a bit of a short sharp shower in the afternoon which put a bit of a dampener on things, but we made the best of the day.
“We had quite a bit of live entertainment, we had a brass band, a dance display, a magic show, a barbecue and more.”
