Resident wins flood battle
A Congleton resident has won a battle against Cheshire East Council to save his home from flooding.
In 2017, the Chronicle reported that Malcolm Gibson, (80), who lives on Giantswood Lane, had to pump thousands of gallons of water out of his garden every day.
Two years on and Mr Gibson said that after an inspection by plumbing specialists, Dyno, it was found that Cheshire East was responsible for the flooding and remedial work would cost around £28,000.
The water is coming from Lower Heath Recreation Ground, Mr Gibson explained. He had asked the local authority to install a drain, but it denied responsibility.
He said his garden was under up to six inches of water and that the pump he used was pumping 56 gallons of water every minute.
