School sought guidance in wake of ‘Momo’ hoax
A school said it took guidance from the Samaritans and NSPCC after reports at home and abroad that some children had received threats and challenges to harm themselves from an online character, although experts said it was just a hoax.
Parents expressed concerns over the “Momo Challenge”, which had reportedly sent violent images to youngsters’ phones with a series of tasks that they must carry out, including self-harm.
The creepy, bug-eyed doll figure has made national headlines in recent weeks following allegations that it became the face of challenges that encouraged children to self- harm.
