‘Serious’ fear over food waste recycling plans
A councillor has raised “great and serious” concerns over Cheshire East Council’s plans to integrate garden waste recycling with food and kitchen waste, claiming that the impact on livestock could be “horrendous”.
Sandbach town counc-illor David Jack said he had “exceptional reserv-ations” over Cheshire East’s announcement that it plans to introduce food waste recycling by integrating it with garden and green waste.
He said that if the plans were put in place without the appropriate measures there would be a risk of cross-contamination and the spread of food waste into nearby farms by rodents or scavengers, which could spread diseases such as foot and mouth.
