Shock as Beeston market goes into administration
Auctioneering and estate agency firm Wright Marshall has gone into administration, signalling the death knell for livestock auctions in Cheshire.
The company, which operated Beeston Castle livestock market, appointed administrators last Wednesday and has ceased trading with immediate effect, leading to the redundancy of 37 market staff.
The company, which owes thousands of pounds to those in the agriculture industry, alerted farmers when the firm cancelled its weekly Thursday cattle and sheep sale for 20th June on the previous afternoon, citing “reasons beyond the company’s control”. Subsequent sales on the following Monday and Wednesday were then also cancelled.
