Tenant farmer’s fight to continue livelihood
Progress has been made in a farmer’s bid to keep his home and business within the area his family has farmed for more than 50 years.
David Platt, (50), and wife Julie, (51), are facing eviction from the land that was farmed first by his father, George¸(81), who had a life long tenancy on New Pastures Farm, Macclesfield Road, Gawsworth with Cheshire East Council (formerly Cheshire County Council).
As 50-year old Mr Platt’s father approached retirement and he prepared to take control of the farm, the council informed him that he would not be able to take on the life-long tenancy and was instead offered a tenancy of 15 years, which Mr and Mrs Platt accepted.
