Widespread power cut

Thousands of residents across parts of Congleton and Biddulph were given a rude awakening early on Thursday morning after a large power cut activated burglar alarms.
The electricity went off just before 4am, when more than 11,000 homes temporarily lost their supplies.
The power cut only lasted six minutes and the cause is under investigation by utility company Western Power Distribution.
