Women’s Equality Party has its first councillor

History was made in Congleton Town Council’s East Ward on Thursday when voters elected the Women’s Equality Party’s first local government representative in the country.
Kay Wesley was elected after voters turned away from the establishment parties.
The Conservatives lost control of the council after losing two thirds of their seats “as voters sent a clear message demanding political change,” said Mrs Wesley.
