World heritage status for Jodrell Bank observatory
Jodrell Bank Observatory — at the forefront of astronomical research for decades — has been added to the Unesco world heritage list.
The observatory, owned by the University of Manchester, has joined historic sites such as Stonehenge, Machu Picchu, the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal on the list of globally important protected sites. It is the UK’s 32nd site to be added to the prestigious list.
