Apprenticeships ambassador has become an MBE

A Holmes Chapel woman said it was a “big surprise” to be named in the New Year’s honours list for her “phenomenal” work as an appren-ticeships ambassador in the North West.
Elaine Margaret Billi-ngton, (53), of Chester Road, received an MBE for her volunteer work in the North West Apprenticeship Amba-ssadors Network.
She also worked for United Utilities from 2002 until September 2019, where she was instrumental in restarting its apprenticeship programme, and recently started as an executive director for Highways England.
Ms Billington said: “I was surprised but really chuffed that it was in recognition of the work I’ve done in apprenticeships.
