Car crash and stabbing claim mar proposal
A car crash and allegations of a stabbing disrupted a romantic marriage proposal at the Wheatsheaf pub in Sandbach last Wed-
Sandbach resident Pete Williams, (45), had just gone down on one knee to ask fiancée Heather Ablard, (42), to make an honest man of him when eyewitnesses said a Peugeot 406 crashed into the side of the building and two men emerged embroiled in an argument.
One of the men claimed he had been stabbed and was seen throwing a knife into the street.
Mr Williams and Miss Ablard were in the Wheatsheaf, in Hightown, when he nodded to the waiting staff to prepare the champagne.
But as Mr Williams got down on one knee, the car was reported to have crashed into the side of the pub, followed shortly by allegations of assault then the sound of police sirens.
Mr Williams, of Sunnymill Drive, said: “It was all planned. We had champagne and flowers behind the bar and the table was booked for 8pm. Both of our families were going to come to celebrate.
