Family presented poetry penned by ‘literary genius’
The compiled poetry works of a “literary genius” from Sandbach were presented to a selection of “overwhelmed” guests.
The Complete Poetical Works of Roger Newton, MA were published in hardback recently and a selection of his prose was read by the author’s widow Marjorie and daughter, Alexandra, at Sandbach Library on Friday.
Mr Newton died in 2016 at the age of 84 having lived “a full and gratifying life” during which he taught classics for nearly four decades and did military service in Cyprus, where his ability to speak Greek was utilised.
The volume of works were compiled and published by his widow and daughter after his death, which they said was an “emotional experience”.
