Peals of joy at St Luke’s for bell ringer’s 60 years

A Holmes Chapel grandfather is celebrating 60 years of being a bell ringer at St Luke’s Church.
David Phillips, of Moreton Drive, is marking the anniversary this year after he switched from singing in the church choir and relocated to the bell tower at St Luke’s, where he would later be married.
As a teenager in summer 1958, Mr Phillips was asked by Rev John Culley whether he would like to move upstairs and become bell ringer, which was a traditional route at the time.
