Creditable draw earned by Blues
Blues took on Crewe Alex in their latest pre-season friendly and turned in a good performance to earn a creditable draw at Harrison Park on Thursday.
Hard-working Leek Town came up against a well-organised Alex U23s and had to defend well throughout.
The visitors moved the ball about well but had to wait until the hour mark before taking the lead direct from a 22-yard free kick.
However, Blues drew level through Tim Grice on 71 minutes and after the game manager Neil Baker commented: “I thought it was a good game between two evenly matched sides.
“We took a step up with our performance which is what we are looking for as the pre-season progresses.”
Walford and Thomas agree terms
Baker has agreed terms with midfielder Charlie Walford, who scored a spectacular goal in the pre-season win over 47 Northwich. Walford, (19), was released by Port Vale during the summer.
Baker has also agreed terms with Zeff Thomas a 28-year-old football journeyman, who was with Glossop last season. He scored twice against Leek in the FA Trophy tie last season and is also a St Kitts and Nevis international. Both players have signed for the coming season.
