Astbury Golf Club
The Astbury Golf Club held its mixed past captains competition and dinner on Thursday, 20th June.
After several days of sudden heavy showers, it was with some trepidation that 13 pairs of past lady captains and past captains teed off for the annual Greensomes event over 12 holes. Luckily, everyone stayed dry and the weather was almost summery in the late afternoon.
The competition was won by 24pts, on card play-off, by 2006 lady captain Chris Westrup and immediate past captain Paul Bestwick.
The nearest-the-pin prizes were won by Gary Adams, captain in 2002, and the current president on the fourth; Dave Westrup, captain in 2013 on the seventh, and immediate past lady captain Chris Alcock on the 11th.
Ted Darton, captain in 1998, was Alcock’s playing partner and holed the putt for the only two recorded that afternoon. They also finished with 24pts as runners-up.
In the evening, further past captains and guests joined the golfers for a “delicious” meal in a convivial atmosphere.
