Golf club raises £3k for Christie

At the annual ladies January dinner, Congleton Golf Club captains for 2019, Carl Gola and Angie Gibbins, were pleased to present a cheque for £3,150 to Louise Dawson from The Christie, who said the money would be put towards the new Macclesfield branch of The Christie. The total was topped up by personal donations from LRC 4X4, Ms C Freemantle, Mr and Mrs Negus, Mr and Mrs Yates and Mr and Mrs Walker, to name but a few.
Various challenges and events went towards raising funds for the captains’ charity, one of which was a 24-hour static bike ride, where members had time slots throughout the day and night to cycle as far as they could. The total mileage was 585 miles in 24 hours.
The lady captain’s challenge to the ladies section took into account Mrs Gibbins’ love of swimming. Asking them to keep a log of the distance they swam over the year, those who took part logged 352 miles.
As they presented the cheque, both captains expressed their thanks to all who helped raise the funds, recognising that this money would not be available if it hadn’t been for the generosity and dedication of everyone involved.
