WHITCHURCH LADIES 3s 3
(Cheshire Women’s Hockey League Division Six)
On an afternoon that was dry and great for hockey, Sandbach played host to Whitchurch.
This fixture last season had seen Whitchurch beat Sandbach, but with their new-found confidence and younger players, Sandbach were up for this game and knew it could be won.
Sandbach started the better and were soon winning after a well-worked team goal.
Pushing too high up the pitch, soon gave Whitchurch chance to break and the score was 1-1 at half-time.
Whitchurch started the second half at pace and bombarded the Sandbach goal but to no avail.
It was Sandbach who scored their second and then Whitchurch followed suit.
Scoring with six minutes to go Sandbach needed to hang on for the win, but some loose hockey led to a Whitchurch short corner with a minute to go and the final score was 3-3.
A Sandbach spokesperson said: “The game was played in great spirits and probably was a fair result.”
Sandbach goal scorers: Sam Ashley, Phil Pordes and Mia Ullmer.
