Triton Hockey Club match reports

TRITON MEN’S 1s 3
MACCLESFIELD MEN’S 1s 0
(North West Hockey League
Premier Division)
The Men’s 1s enjoyed the perfect start to 2020 with a win over Macclesfield that moved the team back into second place in the North West Premier League on goal difference.
Brad Stevens scored his second goal in two games to open the scoring for Triton after some fine work on the right from Mikey Calam. It wasn’t plain sailing for Triton as JP Dodd in the Triton goal was forced into a couple of smart saves from penalty corners following Macclesfield pressure.
Triton regained some control of the game as Martin Gregory fired home a penalty corner through the legs of the Macclesfield keeper on the half hour.
Triton continued to dominate the early exchanges of the second half but couldn’t force a third goal. The hosts were punished with Macclesfield scoring on the counter attack as a forward found space on the right. His first effort was saved by man of the match Dodd before the rebound was lifted in.
Triton made the result safe a couple of minutes later when firstly Tom Chaddock then Andy Conway had efforts saved before Ryan Griffiths made sure at the third attempt.
NESTON LADIES’ 2s 7
TRITON LADIES’ 1s 1
(Cheshire Women’s Hockey League Division One)
This result was somewhat hard to swallow by the Ladies’ 1s on the Wirral.
An even start saw both sides create chances, the home team opening the scoring with a reverse stick strike into the top corner.
Triton squandered a couple of chances as player of the match Kate Dale moved the ball effectively in midfield but Neston scored some quickfire goals just before the break, giving them a 5-0 lead at half-time. Triton had to play the last 10 minutes with 10 players after an injury.
Back to full strength in the second half, Triton played some nice hockey, and got a goal back when Tracy Crump pounced from a short corner, striking the ball hard past the Neston keeper.
The home team scored two more despite some great attacking intent from the visitors.
TRITON LADIES’ 2s 1
SANDBACH LADIES’ 1s 2
(Cheshire Women’s Hockey League Division Three)
Triton Ladies were narrowly beaten in a close encounter with near neighbours Sandbach.
Julie Harris converted from a penalty corner for the home team while youngster Darcey Pawezowski gave a player of the match performance with a fine display on the wing.
TRITON MEN’S 3s 8
TRITON MEN’S 4s 0
(Division Five South East)
The Men’s 3s players showed no compassion for their club-mates by handing a very heavy defeat to maintain the promotion push in second place in Division Five SE.
The 4s started well, making it difficult for the 3s to gain a foothold in the game. The first goal came as Si Cruxton’s strike hit the post and skipper Alan Lewis was on hand to convert.
Before half-time, Matt Kimberlin added the second and Cruxton grabbed one for himself for a 3-0 lead at the interval.
The second half saw the 4s have a number of opportunities in and around the 3s’ D but they were unable to convert despite coming very close on a couple of occasions.
There were five more goals from the 3s. Matt Kimberlin opened the floodgates, Cruxton converted his second and Andy Pilbury completed the scoring.
TRITON LADIES’ 3s 0
NESTON LADIES’ 5s 3
(North West Hockey League Division Six)
Triton Ladies’ 3s also suffered a disappointing defeat in their first game of 2020, although Kat Doyle gave a great performance to earn her the player of the match title, with some fine attacking play.
