Hosts give away half-time lead

The 1st team played host to Orrell again at the weekend in a league fixture.
The match kicked off at 2.15pm on Hankinson’s Field. Five minutes in, fly-half Joseph Kanaurus scored the first try of the match and completed the conversion giving the home team the lead; 7-0.
Orrell fought back and 10 minutes later they levelled the score; 7-7.
A forward pass by Congleton gave Orrell the opportunity to get ahead via a penalty but they missed it.
With the ball back in play and in Congleton’s hands, captain Greg Wood seized the opportunity and stormed through the visitors’ defensive line near the corner to place the ball over the try line. The conversion wasn’t successful but Congleton were winning 12-7.
Orrell came back strong and fought to regain possession but through foul play gave Congleton a penalty kick. Josephs sent the ball sailing through the posts and Congleton were winning 15-7 at half-time.
In the second half the teams continued their battle for victory and Orrell were awarded a penalty try for their efforts.
With 10 minutes to go they managed to score another try which was converted to take the score to 15-17.
With just minutes left, a penalty was awarded to Orrell. The crowd held their breath in united anticipation. The ball went through the uprights and Orrell were victorious.(Submitted photographs).
