Glow Up Kitchen is a new healthy living project for young people aged nine to 19 being launched in Biddulph.
Child-and-parent sessions are also being launched.
The new venture from Biddulph Youth and Community Zone aims to empower young people to take charge of their health and well-being.
Participants will learn how to plan, prepare and cook healthy, budget-friendly meals using produce from the community garden wherever possible.
Sessions are free to attend, because “cost should never be a barrier to a healthier life”, according to a Zone statement.
Young people taking part will also have access to The Fitness Hub, enjoy well-being sessions and hear from local food specialists.
It will also be a space to build skills, confidence and friendships – and healthier habits for life.
Each Glow Up Kitchen session will run for up to two hours, with more than 150 young people expected to benefit.
The programme launches during half-term with two sessions.
First up is Teen Brunch on Tuesday, 26th May, from noon to 1.30pm, offering a relaxed space for teens to enjoy a free, healthy meal.
This is followed by Race and Refuel on Wednesday 27th from noon to 2pm, an energetic afternoon of multi-sport activities rounded off with a nutritious lunch.
While the brunch is a drop-in, booking is essential for Race and Refuel; places can be reserved via the Biddulph Youth and Community Zone’s Facebook Messenger or by visiting the centre.
The project continues on Wednesday, 3rd June, with family cooking from 6pm to 7.30pm, a workshop encouraging parents and children to bond while learning to prepare a healthy stir-fry together.
To join this session, book in advance via eventbrite.co.uk looking for “Glow up Family Cooking Session”.
All young people wishing to attend any sessions must have a youth club consent form completed by an adult.
Thanks went to The Roly and June Foundation, whose funding has made the project possible.
