A long-awaited highways improvements scheme on the A527 Meadows Way in Biddulph started on Monday.
The £580,000 scheme is being delivered by Staffordshire County Council and will include the resurfacing of the road along with repairs to kerbs and ironworks.
The work is expected to take around two weeks to complete.
Temporary traffic lights will be in operation for much of the scheme.
The road will also be closed each night between 7pm and 6am for the duration of the works. Access for residents to nearby roads will be maintained wherever possible.
County Coun Patrick Allen, Cabinet support member for highways north at the county council, said: “This is an important scheme for Biddulph and those who pass through the area, and is part of wider road improvements in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
“The work is likely to take around two weeks to complete and crews will be doing all they can to minimise disruption to residents. As with all our schemes, I’d like to thank people in advance for their co-operation while we get the work done.”
The state of the road has been a bugbear for some time.
In 2024, Coun Nigel Yates said that one of his main pledges during his previous election campaign had been to reduce the number of potholes.
He said: “There were 128 potholes when I was doing my campaign and the vast majority of them were resolved. I made sure we got a commitment to resurfacing a lot of the key routes into Biddulph, like the bypass and Meadows Way.
“We had £14.3 million allocated to get up to date with potholes, and there are 65 county councillors. That sounds like a lot, but when you divide it between us, that’s only £220,000 per division for potholes.
“What people must remember is that it’s purely down to a lack of Government funding.”
