New Life Church was a hive of activity recently as volunteers wrapped 900 individual Christmas presents in a single day, along with preparing 150 “bags of joy” for vulnerable adults.
The joint campaign, run by Blue Spot IT and New Life Church, raised around £10,000 to provide a “substantial” bag of gifts for 88 children in 55 families who were otherwise unlikely to enjoy much of a Christmas. Recipients were identified by health visitors and several Congleton charities supporting deprived households.
Steve Hodgkinson of New Life Church said: “A huge thankyou to the community for its support.”
Guy Brittain from Blue Spot IT added that local firms and many individuals contributed to the appeal. Donations came from James Ashbrook, TMC, Bathgate, Cheshire East Council Highways, Congleton Chats Back, Hammond McNulty, Widdop and Co, AstraZeneca, Berisford’s, Circus Starr, Everybody Leisure, The Town Trust, Roman Lodge, Feast, Marton Meadows Golf Club, Team Carton and Awesome Walls.
The mayor, Coun Robert Brittain, and the mayoress attended to meet some of the sponsors and volunteers involved.
In total, the team raised about £10,000 and packed 900 presents and 150 “bags of joy”.
