Chrstine Brooks is 100.

A centenarian was presented with 100 daffodils on Sunday to mark her milestone birthday.

Staff at Astbury Mere Care Home in Congleton gifted the huge spring posy to Christine Brooks, who has been a resident for the past three years.

Surrounded by her family, Mrs Brooks celebrated her big day with afternoon tea at the Alexandra Court Hotel in Congleton.

Born on 1st March 1925, she was raised in Alderley Edge and attended the village primary school.

A teenager when WWII began, Mrs Brooks said she had “fond” memories of being in the forces. The 100-year-old trained to be a radar operator in Oswestry, close to the Shropshire border with Wales, and later served for three years, stationed in Lancaster, Leeds and Sheffield.

Mrs Brooks met her husband John in 1959 on a walking holiday in Yugoslavia and they were married the following year at St Philip’s Church in Alderley Edge. The reception was held at the Alderley Edge Hotel.

They bought a house in Cheadle Hulme, which remained their family home for more than 56 years until her husband sadly died.

Mr and Mrs Brooks had three children, twins Sally Pearce and Julie Burgess, (59), and eldest daughter Diane Peers, (62). They have five granddaughters, Jenna, Jessica, Caitlin, Eleanor and Freya.

Of the care home where their mother lives, her daughters said: “Our mum is settled and comfortable there and feels very well looked after by all the staff.”
