The classic tale of working men trying to earn a living is on stage at the Daneside Theatre later this month.
“The Full Monty” is based on the 1997 BAFTA award-winning film about six out-of-work Sheffield steelworkers with nothing to lose. Simon Beaufoy, the Oscar-winning writer of the film, has gone back to Sheffield where it all started to rediscover the men, the women, the heartache and the hilarity of a city on the dole.
The film itself was made on a budget of £3 million and was a sleeper hit, earning more than £160 million in global box office receipts, becoming the highest-grossing film in the UK at the time.
Music in the play includes “You Sexy Thing” by Hot Chocolate, “You Can Leave Your Hat On” by Tom Jones, “Hot Stuff” by Donna Summer, “Je t’aime… moi non plus” by Serge Gainsbourg and “Land of a Thousand Dances” by Wilson Pickett.
Phoenix Theatre Company’s presentation runs at the Daneside from 20th to 23rd May.
