A special celebration recently took place at Park Lane Residential Care Home in Congleton, when David and Joan Boon marked their diamond wedding.
The happy couple celebrated their marriage milestone at Park Lane, where Mrs Boon is a resident. They were joined by their two sons, James and Jason, residents and staff from the home, and the town mayor, Coun Suzy Firkin.
The couple, who are lifelong Congleton residents, are proud grandparents to Thomas and Aoife and throughout their 60 years of marriage, family has remained at the heart of their lives.
They first met while working together at Aerialite in Congleton and were married on 11th June 1966 at St Stephen’s Church, followed by a reception at Mrs Brown’s on Park Lane.
Their two-week honeymoon took them through France and Spain before arriving in Paris, sparking a lifelong love of travelling together which has seen them visit many countries including Hong Kong, Australia, the USA and Portugal.
Professionally, they have both enjoyed successful careers.
Mr Boon worked in distribution and marketing for several companies before establishing his own business. Alongside raising their young family and helping her husband when he set up his own firm, Mrs Boon also built a successful career of her own, working as a legal secretary for local firms Charlton’s and Poole Alcock, as well as undertaking accounts work for a local builder.
During their 60 years together, Mr and Mrs Boon have been active members of the Congleton community. They have supported a variety of local charities and community events, including the carnival and raft race.
Mr Boon is a former chair of Congleton Round Table and Buglawton Primary School PTA and, more recently, was a member of Congleton Inclosure Trust, while Mrs Boon was an active member of Congleton Ladies Circle.
Sport, travel and music have always played an important role in the couple’s lives.
Mr Boon played for and captained Congleton Rugby Club, while his wife was active in local badminton leagues and table tennis groups.
The couple received a signed anniversary card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
