This was the scene at Market Square in Congleton after a car careered through a fence and ended up in the grassed area next to the police station.
An eyewitness described hearing a noise “like the rear shutter of a van being opened” before seeing the vehicle head across the green, just missing the heart-shaped wildflower area.
The collision happened at around 11.15am on Tuesday 30th June, when the blue Skoda estate smashed through the fence behind Congleton Town Hall.
The eyewitness said: “I heard what sounded like the shutters on the back of a lorry being lifted up – there are often deliveries to the town hall but it was quite loud. I looked up and saw the car going across the grassed area. It was surreal.”
They added: “It was a relief to see the driver getting out of car. She seemed to be walking ok. Bystanders were quickly with her and a couple of police officers came from the police station to assist.”
The driver was seen by the car with a mechanic a few hours later, who was able to drive the vehicle back onto the road via the damaged fence.
Cheshire Police were asked to comment.
