On Thursday 16th October, Alsager Golf and Country Club Jazz Society welcomes back the saxophonist Rod Mason, leading what promises to be an evening of swinging, straight-ahead jazz of the highest calibre.
Mason has long been a highly respected figure on the British jazz scene.
Known for his warm, rounded tone and effortless phrasing, he is steeped in the tradition of classic mainstream and swing-era jazz.
Over the years he has appeared with a host of leading UK bands and has built a reputation as both a commanding soloist and an ensemble player.
At the piano will be Dan Whieldon, one of the UK’s most elegant and expressive jazz pianists. A graduate of both the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Northern College of Music, Whieldon has steadily become one of the most sought-after pianists of his generation. He has performed at leading jazz venues and festivals across the UK and Europe, including the Southbank Centre, Ronnie Scott’s, the London Jazz Festival and the Manchester Jazz Festival.
Providing the rhythmic engine of the quartet will be Peter Robinson on bass and Roger Keay on drums.
The performance begins at 8pm at Alsager Golf and Country Club (ST7 2UR). Everyone is welcome — no membership required. Admission is £10, cash on the door, with an optional raffle for those feeling lucky.
