Pintglass: Pintglass

I occasionally type random words into my music streaming provider and see what comes up.
It takes me all over the world, for better or worse, and this time it landed me in, er, Guildford.
Pintglass play a very British brand of brutal death metal they call Geezacore. It seems to be death metal for blokes on the tools, and one fan comments: “Beatdown fur grafters. Absolute class, always dreamt of such a genre when I started on the sites as a laddie.”
Pintglass blend mind-numbing death metal with lyrics about working-class life: in one section it all stops and someone sings (to the tune of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood classic) “Relax / Drink Stella”.
It opens with a sweary take on the national anthem (if I could make out the words we’d not be able to print them) before blasting into “Site Mentality”. The lyrics are online IN BLOCK CAPITALS OBVIOUSLY and one of the only swear-free lines is “Apprentice turned up he ain’t got any tools / … churpin up I put him straight through the wall”, though there is “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star / You Can Find Me At The Bar”.
Not too sure what “The Court Bus Extravaganza” is about but it opens with (cleaned up) “I’m sick of all these dickheads hangin round my site / You soppy mug you’ve never worked a day in your life / You wouldn’t know a Makita if it hit you in the face / Bruv you ain’t a geezer you’re a disgrace”. It’s not all metal: “Mental in the Rental” is more like Cypress Hill.
It closes with what might be the Pintglass anthem, a song called “Pintglass by Pintglass off the Album Pintglass”, which is them swearing to be Pintglass for life, (“Pintglass, let’s have a fight … Geezas for life … Get off my site … When I say Geeza you say Geeza”, as well as pledging allegiance to the Guildford dialling code.
Despite this being played somewhat for laughs Pintglass are clearly all top musicians – amateurs can’t really do hardcore – and live are probably hilarious, if loud.
For fans of death metal / metal core, but worth one play for the laugh, especially if you go to work with a toolkit.
