Not a band but a real girl, and she may join Marina (of the Diamonds) on my list of female vocalists who make one feel happy to be alive. It’s a short list. (Meadowlark nearly made it, but their album didn’t quite come off and the list is ruthless).
My download, as so often happens, is in a different order to the released version but I think my opener “LYATT” is best; the noisy electronic tune reveals its title as an acronym for “Love You All The Time”, and it’s a dense, dance-y tune, slightly at odds with the rather minimalist sound that follows.
“Doing Laps” apparently opens and it’s a nice mid-album track, going nowhere but atmospheric; “LYATT” follows it as a contrast.
“The Peaks” reminds me of the above mentioned Meadowlark, whose career stalled when they proved unable to write an album to match their EP.
“The Field” is gently funky but minimalist while “Almost Transparent” opens a little like Ryuichi Sakamoto before firming up just a little into a sparse pop tune.
It’s a decent sparse electronic pop album and she has a beguiling voice. Not sure how any times you could play it on repeat, though.
