Bromley Road house closure.

Police secured a closure order following reports of drug abuse, disorder and crime at a house in the town.

The house on Bromley Road has been shut down by officers following the securing of a closure order under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 from Chester Magistrates’ Court on 5th June.

The order, which came into effect from Thursday, will run for three months and applies to 54A, Bromley Road. The order follows action by police officers and Plus Dane Housing, who said they were “responding to the concerns of residents regarding the behaviour at the property” including drug activity, antisocial behaviour, threats of violence, and visitors “all day and night”.

Police said that residents in the local area had provided “sufficient evidence” of the issues coming from the address and were “desperate” for the relief that a closure order would bring to the local community.

It was an example of “great communication” between officers, Plus Dane Housing and the local community that lead to securing the three-month order, police said.

The police said the occupant was given “ample opportunity” to seek assistance from other agencies but had “failed to engage” and had since been ordered to leave the property and find alternative accommodation.

All windows and doors have been secured for three months.

Anyone aside from police and Plus Dane staff who enters the address during that time will be committing a criminal offence and could be arrested.

PC Helen Weeks said: “We are dedicated to keeping this neighbourhood and its residents safe, so securing this closure with their help is fantastic news and I hope it encourages others to work with us to make their communities safer for everyone.

“I want to urge anyone with concerns about ASB or other criminality in their community to please contact local officers and we will do everything we can to address these issues and achieve justice.”

The court order, which did not name a tenant, said it was necessary because of disorderly, offensive or criminal behaviour on the premises, and the use of the premises resulted in serious nuisance to members of the public.

The order ends on 4th September at 11.59pm.

Anyone with concerns about anti-social or suspicious behaviour in their area is asked to report it to Cheshire Police via the Cheshire Police website or call 101.
