East Cheshire Eye Society is inviting people to lace up their walking boots and take part in its annual Vision Walk this spring.
The Macclesfield-based charity, which supports people living with sight loss across East Cheshire, will host the sponsored walk on Saturday, 9th May, starting from its resource centre.
Open to people of all ages and abilities, Vision Walk aims to raise funds while also increasing awareness of the challenges faced by those living with visual impairment.
As an independent charity that relies entirely on fundraising and donations, events like this help East Cheshire Eye Society continue providing services for blind and partially sighted people in the local community. These include advice and information, training, equipment demonstrations and support for individuals and their families.
Participants can choose between a 10K route or a shorter 5K option, finishing at the halfway point, making it accessible for families, supporters and anyone wanting to get involved.
Alan Chappell, charity manager at the society, said: “This will be our second sponsored walk, and we hope it will raise much-needed funds for the Eye Society, but also, importantly, raise awareness of both the work we do to support people locally and also the challenges that people face when living with a visual impairment.
“We’d love to get support from local businesses and organisations who want to support their local community through corporate social responsibility.
“The walk is open to people with a visual impairment – we’ll have sighted guides available to help – and fully sighted people, whether you’re already connected to the charity or not.”
Walkers will set off between 10am and 10.30am, with refreshments waiting at the finish line. Children can also take part in an adventure trail, and every participant will receive a completion certificate.
Entry costs £10 for adults, £5 for children aged 5–15 and is free for under 4s. Participants who raise £50 or more in sponsorship will receive their entry fee back in vouchers.
