It might be murder on the dancefloor but a local nightclub is banning mobile phones as it says they kill the groove for other customers.
In a move to “revive the pure essence of nightlife”, 3D Nightclub – probably still known to many as Raph’s – has banned mobile phone use on the dancefloor, a policy aimed to encourage club-goers to reconnect with the heart of the party—dancing with friends, not scrolling through social media.
3D’s Gavin McAspurn told the “Chronicle”: “We believe that the constant presence of phones has detracted from the communal energy that makes a night out memorable.
“When you’re on the dancefloor, you’re there to party with the friends beside you, not with a screen.”
He said that by removing phones from the equation, 3D – which is offering free entry before 11.30pm over the bank holiday – hoped to create “a more immersive experience”, allowing people to live in the moment.
“Next time you hit the floor, remember: it’s time to dance, not to text!” he said.
