On Monday, 17th January, a team of students from Alsager school, The Cargo Conquerors, took part in the first Lego League regional final at NSCG Newcastle College, where they won a champions trophy and a second trophy for best robot performance.
The students, from years seven to nine, competed against 14 other schools who had reached the regional final to program robots that perform various tasks on this year’s theme of Cargo Connect.
The team also had to present an innovation project on a cargo theme to a panel of judges.
They developed a design for an autonomous vehicle that could be dropped from an aircraft to deliver vaccines to remote areas in the developing world.
Each member of the team had specific roles such as research, design, robot development and programming, and all of them had a part in the presentation.
The students will now go to a national final to be held in Harrogate in February.
