Why was police helicopter out over Congleton?

People across the southern edge of Congleton were awoken by the police helicopter in the early hours of Saturday (15th May).

The helicopter apparently began searching over fields in Astbury before following the direction of the old Lamberts Lane over to Hightown. Eyewitnesses said the helicopter was using its powerful searchlight to sweep the area.

A police spokesperson told the Chronicle that police were hunting for a missing girl – but the story had a happy ending.

The spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11pm on Friday, 14th May police received reports of a 15-year-old girl having gone missing in Congleton.

“Officers – assisted by the police helicopter – carried out a number of searches in the area.

“The girl was found safe and well at 2.24am.”
