Fire service silent on Milton Park graffiti wall

Alsager Fire Service has failed to respond for more than nine months after concerns were raised about the safety of a wall in a busy park.
At an Alsager Town Council meeting earlier this month, town clerk Julie Mason said she had been attempting to contact Alsager Fire Service about the graffiti wall in Milton Park, which it owns, but had not received a response.
Mrs Mason said the council had already spent £2,300 on park renovations, including replacing damaged benches and plant pots, and it had allocated up to £5,000 for further repairs.
Coun Pauline Hubbard descried the chipboard wall as “awful” and the skatepark itself “certainty didn’t look like they had spent money upgrading it” and she was unsure what the money was even spent on.
Coun Derek Longhurst said he had taken Cheshire Police on a tour around the park to show them the damage, and make them more familiar with the grounds.
Coun Longhurst said: “We also took them to the public toilets where most of the antisocial behaviour had been taking place.”
Last month, the “Chronicle” reported “abusive and aggressive” youths had targeted Indian restaurant Latif’s, which is located next to Milton Park, and had caused surveillance equipment to be damaged and removed from the wall.
A spokesperson for Latif’s restaurant said: “They have been running around everywhere and breaking other stuff as well, like the flowerpots around the park.”
In April, the “Chronicle” reported another incident when two youths were escorted home from Milton Park by officers.
Speaking at the time, a spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “Such behaviour will not be tolerated, and action will be taken.”
Mrs Mason said that the issue of the wall had to raised at the fire service head office in Winsford and “that’s why we’re not getting a response”.
Coun Michael Unett suggested sending a complaint about the “danger” posed by the wall to force a response. The council could then put forward its solution.
Alsager Fire Service was asked to comment.
