Buxton have named double NDL title winner Jack Smith as their captain for the return of the sport to Hi-Edge in 2026.
Stoke-born Smith, (27), enjoyed success with Birmingham in 2016 and followed up with Belle Vue the following year, spending five seasons with the Colts in various spells.
He also has a team place in the Cab Direct Championship with Berwick once again this year.
Smith said: “When I heard Buxton was coming back, I was interested in being part of it. I don’t live far away from there, so despite being at Berwick on a Saturday night, home travel on a Sunday is not too bad.”
He added: “It’s an honour to be asked to captain the Ductair Bulls, and I am sure we will put together a good side to challenge for honours.”
Promoter Laurence Rogers said: “Jack has impressed me with his enthusiasm for riding for us and we had no hesitation in offering him the role of captain. He wants success and that fits in with our aims. One down and six more to sort and announce!”
Buxton have also completed the signing of Alfie Bowtell to form a strong spearhead with Jack Smith as the sport returns to Hi-Edge this year.
Bowtell is currently without a team place at senior level but he has enjoyed NDL success in the past, including KO Cup victory with Mildenhall in 2023.
That season also saw him race for Bulls promoter Laurence Rogers in the Championship at Birmingham.
Mr Rogers said: “Alfie is a great team man and a rider who always gives his full commitment.
“He and Jack give us two strong heat leaders with other signings in the pipeline that will give us a solid side.”
