Cheshire East will inform residents by leaflet and online of future bin collection changes before the food waste recycling service is introduced in the autumn.
The council said it was still working out new rotas for bin collections, needed under new legislation that means every household in England will be provided with weekly food waste collections (ITALICS writes local democracy reporter Belinda Ryan).
The new system – which will also see the council change black bin collections from fortnightly to three-weekly – should have been introduced at the end of March.
But Cheshire East said it was one of many local authorities across the country to have missed the deadline, and said the changes will be introduced in the autumn.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service asked the council how the food waste recycling service would impact bin collections, following speculation on social media about how the changes would work.
A Cheshire East spokesperson said: “The introduction of weekly food waste collections is a huge undertaking and will include changes to the current routes and rotas for bin collections to incorporate the new additional weekly food waste recycling service.
“These changes are being worked through and the information that’s on our website reflects the current waste and recycling collection information.
“Before food waste collections start in the autumn, residents will receive detailed information about how the service will work and what they need to do.
“This will include a leaflet delivered with their new outdoor food waste caddy, and updates to the online bin collection calendar, which can also be downloaded and printed.”
