In spite of the weather, families enjoyed a busy open day hosted by a long-standing Congleton business that has operated in the area for more than five decades.
People of all ages wearing raincoats and clutching umbrellas took part in free activities as part of Sibelco’s recent family fun day.
The business, which first opened its Bent Farm Quarry site 30 years ago, is one of the area s largest producers of silica a material mainly supplied to the construction, metallurgy and sports and leisure industries for use in glass, ceramics and concrete.
During the open day, visitors were able to get up close to some of the machinery used at the site and see how it worked behind the scenes.
There was also plenty for younger guests, including a free climbing wall hired from The Outdoor Education Company, hook-a-duck, and sandpits fully stocked with toys.
A display of creepy-crawlies, including a giant snail and hissing cockroaches from Holmes Chapel Zoo entertained visitors who had taken shelter inside the site s large main tent.
There, they were handed free bags of freshly popped popcorn and could try their luck on a tombola, or take part in a host of arts and crafts.
