The Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival returns for its fifth year this spring.
Running from 24th April to 4th May, it offers a diverse programme of more than 60 guided walks and activities across the district.
The free and low-cost walking events give people a chance to explore the countryside while promoting physical and mental well-being through outdoor activity.
Since launching in 2022, the festival has welcomed more than 3,600 attendees across 230 walks and events, working with more than 70 organisations to showcase the area’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
Organisers said this year’s programme catered to everyone, from families seeking gentle one-mile strolls to experienced hikers ready for challenging 16-mile routes. Several walks are wheelchair accessible and suitable for those with mobility needs. Daytime and evening walks ensure flexibility for different schedules.
Special interest walks are also on offer. History enthusiasts can explore the region’s rich past through guided talks and themed routes, while nature lovers can join spring flora walks. Creative options include sketching and writing walks for those who want to combine movement with artistic expression.
The 2026 festival will feature appearances from well-known local and national nature enthusiasts, bringing expert knowledge and fresh perspectives to the programme. Full details of special guests will be announced in the coming weeks.
Festival organiser Austin Knott said: “We’re thrilled to bring the festival back for its fifth year.
“What started as a lockdown idea has grown into a community celebration that connects people with nature, history, and each other. Our dedicated walk leaders and volunteer panel work hard to create an inclusive programme that welcomes everyone, whether you’re local or visiting for the first time.”
The festival receives support from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, VisitStaffs, Support Staffordshire, and Outside Arts.
