Partial review of local plan

Residents and businesses across the Moorlands are being asked for their views on a partial review of the local plan.

The plan seeks to accommodate increasing housing requirements and includes a new A50 growth corridor policy and updates to the policies that govern the development of sports facilities and open spaces in the district.

The local plan, which guides how development is managed across the Moorlands – excluding the area within the Peak District National Park – was adopted in September 2020.

As it is now five years old, with key policies considered to be out of date, the council said it was undertaking a partial review of certain elements to ensure they remained relevant and effective.

The review includes the deletion of two site specific policies. All the remaining policies in the plan will continue to apply and comments are not being invited on any other sites or policies.

Coun Darren Price, deputy leader and Cabinet member for regeneration and planning, said: “We know that the people that live and work in the Moorlands take a keen interest in the future development of our area so we’re asking people to share their views on these three specific policies and two sites as part of this review.

“There are lots of ways to get involved including some drop-in sessions where you’ll have the opportunity to speak to planning officers about the issues and the options being considered. So please take a look at the documents and tell us what you think. We look forward to hearing your thoughts.”

The consultation runs until Thursday, 8th October. The documents are available to view via the online consultation portal, at council offices in Biddulph, Cheadle and Leek, and at local libraries during normal business hours.

Responses should be submitted via the portal where possible but comments will be accepted by email or letter. Online response forms can be emailed to localplan@staffsmoorlands.gov.uk and completed paper forms sent to Planning Policy, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, PO Box 136, Buxton, SK17 1AQ.
