A struggling group that provides activities in the area for disabled children and young adults aged from five to 21 has been helped by Rotarians.
Friends for Leisure recently lost a big slice of funding from Cheshire East and was faced with the prospect of bridging the funding gap itself.
But when the Rotary Club of Congleton heard of its plight it stepped in.
After being invited to speak at a recent Rotary club meeting, Friends for Leisure’s general manager, Amanda Hunt, and Hannah Guthrie, activities co-ordinator, told Rotarians that they were embarking on a campaign to raise £30,000 by inviting 30 local companies to sponsor them for £1,000 each.
After their presentation, Rotarians told them they would make Friends For Leisure a beneficiary of its Swimathon sponsored swim event in March.
Friends For Leisure will receive 25% of the total money raised at the Swimathon in addition to a share of the sponsorship that their own swimmers can raise by entering a team at the event.
Friends for Leisure helps disabled young people aged five to 21 in and around Congleton to enjoy friendship and leisure. It encourages young people with activities designed to help them enjoy trying new things and making new friends.
They meet on Thursdays at New Life Church.
Full information, including how to set up a Swimathon team, book a lane at Congleton Leisure Centre and set up a charity gift page, is online at congletonrotary.co.uk.
