A long-established cattery is meowv-ing home.
Fatcats Cattery in Congleton has been owned for the past 18 years by Sally Dabbs.
Over this time, the cattery has not only served Congleton but the surrounding villages, building and maintaining what a new planning application describes as an “excellent reputation for exceptional feline care.” The business said it was proud to be recognised as the only five-star (higher standard) rating cattery within Cheshire East, “reflecting an ongoing commitment to the highest standards of animal welfare and facility management.” The cattery said it had a long-standing partnership with Reaseheath College, providing hands-on experience and improving employment prospects for students in animal care.
In addition, the cattery provides opportunities for young people undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, as well as work experience placements for local school students.
As Congleton continues to grow and its population expands, Fatcats Cattery said it was keen to invest in a new, purpose-built facility—resulting in the planning application for the demolition of a garage and change of use of land from a residential garden to a cattery, including the construction of a 40-pen cattery building, a new double garage and landscaping. The application is for Brownlow Heath Farm, Childs Lane, Brownlow.
The application said the development would reflect Fatcats’ dedication to animal welfare, sustainability, and community service.
The new cattery would be an energy-efficient, five-star establishment designed to meet the increasing demand for high-quality feline accommodation.
The 40 pens will be made up of three family pens and 37 double pens. Each pen will be constructed to ensure a safe, comfortable, and stimulating environment for the animals. The design emphasises features such as natural light, effective ventilation, and soundproofing.
The application said the cattery would create five new jobs, increasing staff from the current one to six, all full time.
The application reference number is 25/4198/FUL, and the last date for comments is 3rd December.
