Waitrose recognised as Dementia Friendly

A supermarket in Sandbach is the latest store to be recognised for its support to make Sandbach Dementia Friendly.

To celebrate this, the “Working to become Dementia Friendly 2020-2021” logo was recently handed over to Waitrose deputy manager Gennaro D’Ambrosio for display in the store. An electronic version was provided for its website and social media outlets.

Dave Whitworth, chair of Dementia Friendly Sandbach, said: “It’s great to recognise Waitrose’s support in this way. We were really pleased, having made contact earlier in its current store refurbishment project, that it has been so responsive, including using the Dementia Friendly environment checklist we provided to confirm that its refurbishment plans were Dementia Friendly.

“Mr D’Ambrosio hosted a visit to the store for members of our steering group so that we could see for ourselves how the refurbished store looks.

“This was the final step in the process, as three of the store staff became Dementia Friends at the end of last month.

“It was great to be able to thank them in person and hand over their Dementia Friends badges!”

If anybody is interested in supporting future Dementia Friendly initiatives in Sandbach, they should make contact via dementiafriendlysandbach.org or Facebook page @dementiafriendlysandbach or by phone on 07593 533 260.
