A charity ball that has raised nearly £2 million is to donate some of this year’s proceeds to Macclesfield’s Hospitals breast screening unit.
Boot Out Breast Cancer was set up in 2010 by Debbie Dowie, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009.
Since its first event in November 2010, the event has raised more than £1,850,000.
It has provided equipment for The Royal Bolton Hospital, The Nightingale Centre hospital in South Manchester, Thomas Linacre Breast Centre at Wrightington, Wigan, and Leigh Hospital, Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Chorley Hospital, The Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool and the Paterson Institute next to The Christie.
The 2026 fundraising ball will raise money for Macclesfield Hospital and Boot Out Breast Cancer recently visited East Cheshire NHS Charity and spent time with the “dedicated team” in the breast screening department at New Alderley House, part of Macclesfield District General Hospital.
Ms Dowie met clinicians and support staff to understand more about the services they provided, the challenges they faced and the difference that new diagnostic equipment can make for patients across the region.
She said: “These conversations are at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that every pound raised directly supports those who need it most.”
During the visit, she confirmed that all proceeds from the 2026 Boot Out Breast Cancer Ball will be donated to Macclesfield and Leeds NHS Teaching Hospitals.
“Both teams play a vital role in early detection and patient care, and we’re honoured to support their work,” said Ms Dowie.
This year’s Boot Out Breast Cancer Ball, at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, Manchester, will have a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” theme.
All sponsor tables have now sold out, and the organisers have received “an exceptional number” of advance reservations.
Guests who have submitted reservation requests will receive priority notifications shortly, giving them the first opportunity to secure their table before general sales open.
The evening will be hosted by Sky Sports presenter Hugh Ferris. Live music will be provided by Kevin Simm, lead vocalist of Wet Wet Wet and winner of The Voice UK 2016.
