Death Notices, 14th January, 2021

ADAMS (Claude Douglas). Sadly passed away on 21st December, 2020, at Royal Stoke University Hospital. Claude, aged 96, of Biddulph. Dearly loved husband of the late Ivy Adams, much loved dad of Doug, Lyndene and Nicholas also a cherished granddad and great-granddad of Joanne, Ben, George, Sarah, Henry, Dan, Josh, Mistaya, Sebastian, Jude and Liv. BAILEY (Betty). Peacefully passed away on 4th January, 2021, after a long illness borne with dignity and courage. Betty, aged 84, of Knypersley. Beloved wife of the late Roy, devoted mum of Joanne, sadly missed mother-in-law of David, treasured grandma of Grant, much loved sister of Cynthia, also a special auntie. Betty will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all her family and friends. A private service takes place at St John’s Church, Knypersley, followed by committal at Bradwell Crematorium on Wednesday, 3rd February. CHATTERTON (Margaret Eleanor). Margaret Eleanor Chatterton was born on 12th April, 1932, in Manchester.  The beloved wife of John Percy, mum to Andrew Franklyn, mother-in-law to Charlotte, nana to Holly, James, Amelia, Georgina, Benjamin, Samson & Eleanor and aunty to Mark, Michelle and Susan. Margaret had the most wonderful life, filled with love. She never had a bad word to say about anybody and was a truly faithful wife to John. Margaret loved her badminton and played for Lancashire for many decades in the veterans’ circuits around the UK and worldwide. She was a super crossword and Scrabble player, and loved the history of the Royal Family. Margaret passed peacefully, with John and Andrew holding her hands, on 6th January, 2021, and will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. COOKE (Stephen). Peacefully passed away at Royal Stoke Hospital on 19th December, 2020, with his loving family at his side. Stephen, aged 67, of Congleton. Dearly loved partner of Christine, much loved dad of Andrew, Lee and Stacey, treasured granddad of Kia, Sian, Molly, Madison, Haydyn, Lexi, Liam and Poppy. Sadly missed brother of Anne, Sandra, Paul and the late Alan, loved brother-in-law of Stuart and Ken. Stephen will also be lovingly remembered by Kathy, Daniel and Kerry, Christine’s children. Stephen will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A private family service will take place at Macclesfield Crematorium on Tuesday, 19th January at 10.40am. COPELAND. Peacefully on 26th December, 2020. Maureen Ann, aged 72, of Congleton. The dearly loved and devoted wife of John. Loving mum of Nick and Rachel and a cherished and treasured nana. EARDLEY (Patricia Ann). At rest on 1st January, 2021, at Leighton Hospital. Pat, aged 75, of Scholar Green. The dearly loved wife of Geoff, much loved mum of Gavin, Paul and Andrew, treasured nana of Grace, Mya and Eva and a very dear mother-in-law. ECCLESTONE (Roy, aged 87). Peacefully passed away at home on 4th January, 2021, with his loving wife at his side. Roy, from Mow Cop and Congleton, the dearly loved husband of Eileen for 60 years. Much loved dad of John, Karen and Julia and respected father-in-law of Lou and David, treasured granddad of Emily, Lucy, Ben, Jack, Tom, Connor, Casey, Grace and Albert, precious GG of Khalid, Kai, Junior, Owain, Maria, Noor and Niamh and dearly loved brother and brother-in-law of Jean and Sylvia. Roy’s ministry touched hundreds of lives in many churches throughout the UK, including Congleton. He was dearly loved and will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. A private service will take place at Cross Street Pentecostal Church on Friday, 29th January at noon, followed by burial at St Peter’s Churchyard. A memorial/celebration service will be held later, once the restrictions have been lifted. HANFORD (Gwyneth, nee Hargreaves). Passed away peacefully at home after a long illness, surrounded by her family on 23rd December, 2020. Gwyn, aged 77, of Packmoor. Cherished wife to the late Ian, treasured mum to Louise and Lydia, devoted Mamar to Laura, Matthew and Daniel and much loved sister to Linda and the late Bill. Gwyn will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. Funeral service and cremation will take place on Thursday, 21st January at Bradwell Crematorium at noon. HOLLINSHEAD (Robert, MBE, LLB, retired solicitor, D-Day veteran and Legion D’Honneur). Passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on 1st January, 2021. HULME (Lilian). Peacefully at rest on Monday, 28th December, 2020, in the care of Goldenhill Nursing Home. Lilian Hulme, of Biddulph, aged 91. Wife of the late Harry, dearly beloved mum of Yvonne, mother-in-law of the late Paul. Grandma of Sarah, Martin, Mat and Heather. Cherished great-grandma to Isabelle and William. A dearest auntie, great-auntie, and friend to many, who will be dearly missed. Funeral service to be held at Biddulph Methodist Church on Thursday, 21st January at 1.30pm, followed by cremation at Bradwell Crematorium. LEWIS (Harold). Died on 20th December at Manor House Nursing Home, Stafford. Harold, aged 91, formerly of Congleton, was the devoted husband of both the late Vera and Win. He was a much loved dad, father-in-law, granddad and great-granddad. The funeral will take place on 19th January at Stafford Crematorium. MARCHANT (Kathleen, nee Price and Mawby). Peacefully on 31st December, 2020, in hospital, aged 85, formerly of Congleton. Dearly beloved wife of Alan, loving mum of Andrew, Richard, Susan and Elizabeth, and much loved grandma of Marc and Rachel. She will be greatly missed. Tony was known to close friends as Mr Woods, and was described as a true gent, he will be greatly missed. A private funeral service and cremation will take place at Bradwell Crematorium.
