Hermitage Primary School in Holmes Chapel is celebrating the opening of a new outdoor gym, made possible through the “generosity and dedication” of its parent community.
The project, which has been fully funded by parents, also benefited from the hands-on support of several families who volunteered their time to complete groundwork on site, which the school said “significantly reduced costs and showcased an exceptional level of community spirit”.
The new facility features six pieces of fitness equipment designed to help children build strength, improve coordination and stay active in a fun way.
Pupils are already enjoying the new addition, which offers the opportunity to be active during the school day.
The Hermitage grounds already included an outdoor classroom, a forest area, an astroturf pitch for football, two adventure playgrounds, a climbing wall, a basketball court and an outdoor stage.
Headteacher Adam Young said: “Our mission at Hermitage is ‘Together We Thrive’ and this is a real example of how we have come together successfully.
“Physical activity plays a vital role in children’s development, supporting not only their physical health but also their mental well-being, confidence and readiness to learn.
“We are absolutely delighted with the outdoor gym and so grateful to the parents involved for their generosity and willingness to contribute their time and effort, which is truly inspiring. This facility will make a lasting difference in helping our pupils lead healthy, active lives.”
He said the school remained “committed to ensuring all children thrive both personally and academically, and the outdoor gym represents another significant step in supporting every pupil”.
