A “great time was had by all” on Thursday at Congleton Library, when Elizabeth’s Group held a book launch event for its new book, “Justice is a Woman”.
Susan Munro, author and the group’s chair, gave a short talk and then a question-and-answer session.
Mrs Munro said: “I have always wanted to write a book and so I combined it with the main purpose of Elizabeth’s Group, which is to educate people about Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy, her achievements and her life of service to the cause of equality.
“There are already two really good non-fiction books on Elizabeth’s life, but I wanted to write a book that told a first-person story; what happened to her and how she must have felt.
“My book is a piece of fiction based on her life and times and features lots of places in and around Congleton, her love affair with (husband) Ben and even some funny scenes.
“Most of the people and the situations depicted are factual but I sincerely hope that people will read it as a good story and then perhaps factcheck it against the real history books.”
The group plans several book-signings between now and Christmas and the next event is 4th October, 2pm to 4pm, at Higher Ground, Congleton.
The book will also be available (“eventually”), in the information centre, on Amazon in paperback and Kindle as an eBook.
All proceeds will go to Elizabeth’s Group to further its work to Make Moody Marvellous – Moody Hall, in Congleton town centre, used to house Mrs Elmy’s girls’ school and is now going to rack and ruin.
