Mark saddles up for Christian Aid appeal

A Sandbach cyclist is about to push off on a virtual pedalfest for Christian Aid.

From his garage on a static bike, Mark Thompson will ride one French classic cycle ride each day of Christian Aid Week starting on Monday, riding a total distance of 170km and climbing 8,581m.

Mr Thomson said: “In normal years I do a house to house collection in our area, and always get good support, and I usually do a sponsored bike ride in Wales, too.

“Door to door is not easy during the pandemic, and a trip away may be tricky, so a virtual bike ride may cover both angles.

“I will be riding 170km (in my garage) up some of France’s classic cols, climbing 8,500 metres in the process without ever being more than three feet off the floor!”

He added: “Your gifts will help communities to access a reliable water source, supporting them to provide for their families and survive this climate crisis.

“Thank you for the donations so far – don’t be too sure about that smile – it might be a grimace of pain!”
